A Periodontist is a board registered dental specialist who have undertaken specialist training focusing prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of periodontal (‘gum’) disease, and in the placement of dental implants. The periodontist provides a comprehensive range of diagnostic, non-surgical and surgical procedures aimed at improving the periodontal health and retaining your natural teeth for a long as possible.
You can only become a specialist periodontist after acquiring a university dental degree, gaining general dental experience in clinical practice for at least 2 years and then undergoing an additional 3 years of intensive university and hospital based training. During this time the trainee periodontist are taught on all aspects of gum disease, treatment modalities, implant surgery, bone augmentation surgery and gum surgery at an advanced level. Only after rigorous written and clinical examinations are they awarded their specialist qualification. Hence there’s assurance that your treatment by us will be of the highest quality and evidence based.
Our Periodontist is an Australian graduate and have undertaken postgraduate training at the University of Melbourne. We aim to work closely with our referring dentists to meet their individual requirements and those of their patients, in a timely, efficient and competent manner. However a formal referral is not required to visit our Practices. We often see patients recommended from former and current patients.
